🥑 Discover “What, How, When and Why” You need to Consume Calories
What is a calorie?
You may have asked that to yourself? It’s such a common term, yet if you ask most individuals on the street they would not know how to explain it.
Essentially, a calorie is a unit of energy. “Historically, scientists have defined “calorie” to mean a unit of energy or heat that could come from a variety of sources, such as coal or gas. In a nutritional sense, all types of food — whether they are fats, proteins, carbohydrates or sugars — are important sources of calories, which people need to live and function”.
What does this mean to you? And why should you care?
Understanding how many calories can be beneficial in understanding what you’re putting in your body. That said, not all calories are the same. Case in point, 200 calories from a cookie or 200 calories from a salad is going to impact your body in a completely different way.
In the end, you don’t want to limit yourself to just tracking calories. It’s highly recommended you at least break down the major nutrients of each food you eat.
